Watershed Video Project
#1
The Sun River Watershed Group is considering having a film made to showcase our problems, projects, programs, etc. This is something we'd show at our annual fundraiser or other events, and also have split into shorter clips for social media posts.

Does your organization have a feature video, and can you share a link to it please?
Are you happy with it? What would you do differently? What tips do you have for others considering a similar outreach project?

Can you please let me know what it cost and who your videographer was, if you would recommend them? If you don't want to share those details publicly, please email me at tracy@sunriverwatershed.org.

We have Uniting Montana's Watersheds and used Jon Catton. Several other organizations have used him for these kinds of projects as well.

Thanks, Kierra. If anyone has his contact information, I'd love to reach out to him and get some cost estimation. I'll need it for grant applications. Thanks!

Hey Tracy. Some groups, like the Big Hole Watershed Committee, have put out really nice videos lately. You can see them on youtube, and if you've ever emailed a BHWC employee, you'll see select videos in their signature lines. My sense is that a lot of these videos are heavily subsidized, often in the way of the videographer doing the work at a drastically reduced price because they support the cause. How sustainable that is as an approach, I don't know.

The High Divide Collaborative (part of Heart of the Rockies) has been reaching out to members about video needs, and is looking into possibilities. Most of us agree that a low-quality, cringe-worthy video is far worse than no video at all. So groups like mine are waiting to see what happens. For example I'd much prefer a nice photo slideshow playing along with a recorded narrative over a low-quality, poorly-made video.

There are organizations like Catchafire that many groups have used to get professional media. Probably worth looking into.
