Northcentral Montana is off to its snowiest start on record heading into the 2020-21 snow season with Great Falls alone recording more than 3 feet of snow to date with more than three weeks before the official start of winter.

Coming off an extremely dry summer and fall in a state where many farmers and ranchers are seeing either abnormally dry or drought conditions, the blast of early moisture is being welcomed.

“In our area of the world, any moisture is good and we’ll take every drop we can get,” said Vince Mattson, who grows primarily winter wheat near Chinook and also heads the Montana Grain Growers Association.
