Scientists find microplastics in Gallatin watershed

As Morgan Baskin reports for the Pacific Standard, more than 100 volunteers for the Bozeman-based organization Adventure Scientists collected hundreds of water samples from 72 different sites across the Gallatin watershed in southwest Montana. The results of the study, which closed last summer, were dispiriting. Fifty-seven percent of the samples contained plastic pollutants — impossibly small debris from clothing, equipment, or other manufactured goods — known as microfibers.
