The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is planning to spend between $150 million and $200 million to overhaul the 65-year-old Hungry Horse Dam in northwest Montana.
The Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell reports the bureau will focus on two of the facility’s four generating units simultaneously for one year and individual generating units for nine years. Onsite work is expected to begin in 2020.
Reclamation officials say many of the power plant’s components have reached or exceeded their intended service life, and most funding will come from the Bonneville Power Administration, with some money from Congressional appropriations.
