Fred Burr Creek, 6 miles east of Philipsburg, has extremely elevated levels of mercury, arsenic, and lead in some spots along the floodplain, according to a study released Friday.

The study also found levels of metals are elevated in the creek.

The Granite Headwaters Watershed Group, a nonprofit organization based out of Philipsburg, conducted the study, which was based on sampling of both soil and water at Fred Burr Creek last summer.
