In 2003, a breeding pair of trumpeter swans unfurled their broad white wings and skidded to a stop on a pond near the Bouma Post Yard. 40 years earlier this wouldn’t have been possible. This wetland, like many others in Montana’s Blackfoot Valley, had been drained in the mid-20th century. However, thanks to wetland restoration efforts it had been revitalized within recent years.
