A draft plan that sets fisheries management direction for the next decade at Canyon Ferry, Hauser and Holter reservoirs and two associated stretches of the Missouri River above Canyon Ferry Reservoir and below Hauser Dam will be discussed at the Wednesday, Oct. 17, meeting of the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The Upper Missouri River Reservoir Fisheries Management Plan will be in effect from 2019 to 2028 and builds upon two previous management plans with new data and information. The plan does not establish regulations, but rather suggests strategies that may achieve the proposed management goals.

To help develop the proposal, FWP established a seven-member citizen scoping committee earlier this year. The committee members were diverse, representing Trout Unlimited, Walleyes Unlimited, youth fishing interests, general fishing interests, local outfitters and local businesses. In addition, FWP held five open houses in the area in July for additional public input.
