Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials are urging boaters to help prevent the spread of invasive mussels after a boat infested with them came through a check station in Anaconda.

FWP officials told NBC Montana there are no zebra or quagga mussels detected in the waters west of the Continental Divide. Watercraft inspections are in place to keep it that way.

Zebra and quagga mussels drastically change a body of water. The mussels eat fish food sources, infest beaches, clog pipes, drains and more. It causes a problem for recreation, utilities, fisheries, irrigators and dams.
