Bitterroot River conditions extremely dangerous on West Fork as new rules set to beginNews Type: State Source: Ravalli Republic
New rules to manage fishing pressure on the upper reaches of the Bitterroot River and the West Fork begin today, but it’s doubtful that many will be there to notice.
The rivers are running extremely high and are very dangerous to attempt to float.
“If someone wanted to float from the (Painted Rocks) dam to Marty’s Bridge right now, they can expect to die,” said Sean O’Brien of Hamilton’s Osprey Outfitters. “It’s a death trap.”
O’Brien was out scouting the West Fork on foot earlier this week. What he saw wasn’t encouraging.
