If you have a passion for wetland ecology and working outdoors, a position as an Environmental Field Technician may be for you. The Environmental Field Technician will focus on wetland monitoring and assessment in Southwest Montana!
The Technician will be responsible for conducting ecological integrity assessments which include assessing wetland vegetation, wetland hydrology, and hydric soils. Other responsibilities include: corresponding with private landowners, assisting with planning daily schedules, interpretation of aerial photography; mapping and collecting data using a mobile GIS based system.
This position is temporary and expected to work from mid-May through early fall. The Technician travel extensively (at least 15 days per month) beginning June through mid-September. Fieldwork involves long hours, hiking on uneven ground, steep slopes, and wading in wetlands and streams in waders or hip boots to gather samples, carrying heavy equipment and samples.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in botany, biology, aquatic ecology, ecology, or a closely related field, master’s degree is preferred with the following experience:
Two field seasons of job related experience assessing wetland vegetation, wetland hydrology and/or hydric soils or similar experience. Experience preferred in one or more of the following: botany species identification, environmental sampling techniques. Knowledge of wetland ecology and USACE wetland delineation criteria preferred.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
