In response to the ever-increasing urgency of climate change, WCS‘s Climate Adaptation Fund is shifting its funding priorities to accelerate learning and increase the scale of impact in adaptation for wildlife and ecosystems. The Fund will award up to $2.5 million in grants in 2021 across two funding categories:

  1. Adaptation Implementation – up to $300,000 over three years for adaptation implementation projects with an innovative component, with up to $50,000 to support evidence gathering.
  2. Adaptation Mainstreaming – up to $100,000 over two years for projects mainstreaming an adaptation approach that is grounded in evidence and ready to be adopted at a large scale.

  • U.S.-based non-profit conservation organizations with approved IRS 501(c)(3) status. U.S.-based non-profit conservation organizations without an approved IRS 501(c)(3) status may apply through a 501(c)(3) organization as a fiscal sponsor.

  • Organizations proposing adaptation projects within the 50 U.S. states, Commonwealths, and territories.

  • Organizations proposing adaptation projects in terrestrial, inland aquatic, or coastal aquatic systems.

The WCS Climate Adaptation Fund is unable to make grants to for-profit corporations, individuals, universities, public agencies, municipalities or other types of government entities. However, we encourage and expect that many projects will be implemented in collaborative partnership between the leading non-profit organization and a diverse array of natural resource practitioners.
