Year 2002 Wetland Stewardship Award Winners

Larry Weeks has won the Wetland Stewardship Award for private stewardship. He has restored wetlands on the Smurfitt-Stone Container land since 1998 on a volunteer basis. He's restored over 30 acres of wetlands along the Clark Fork river, enhancing wetland and wildlife qualities of this industrial and rapidly developing area.

Gordon Stockstad
has won the award for public service. As an employee of the Montana Department of Transportation, he started and developed the Montana Wetland and Stream Mitigation program, creating a model for collaboration, innovation, and effective wetland mitigation of wetlands destroyed by road building activities.

Please meet both of our award winners and join the award ceremony in the Old Supreme Court Chambers in the Montana State Capitol at 9:30. Governor Martz will present the awards, and the ceremony will be followed by presentations from both winners. For more information, please contact Lynda Saul at 406-444-6652 or at lsaul@state.mt.us.
