Background:

A non-profit, tax-exempt Montana organization formed in 1991, Montana Environmental Education Association (MEEA) envisions a day when environmental education is fully embraced, supported and integrated into everyday experiences; when citizens of Montana are involved in learning about our environment from the time they are young; and when developing environmental literacy is just…natural.

  • We provide an entry point for individuals and organizations seeking to be connected to and learn more about Environmental Education (EE)
  • We serve as a vehicle to unify the voices of diverse elements of EE and connect educators with resource providers, services & funding opportunities
  • We believe our future and quality of life depends on our ability to become aware, understand, appreciate and enjoy Montana’s natural bounties

MEEA unites voices, provides support, and connects educators to promote environmental literacy across Montana. We are excited to be able to provide a mini-grant funding opportunity.

About the Get Em Outside Mini-Grants:

Celebrating environmental education, the purpose of the “Get Em Outside Mini-Grant” program is to support educators in their efforts to take students outside for learning opportunities. With this funding, MEEA would like to be able to provide valuable resources possibly not available otherwise to both formal classroom and nonformal educators across Montana, fostering excellence in environmental education.

About the Funding:

This mini-grant program began in memory of Emerson Juliette Graham and aims to inspire youth to learn about and care for the natural world.  Grants of up to $500 are available for programs occurring in 2018.  If not all funds are used, they will roll over to the following grant cycle.

2018 Grant Cycle:

Get ‘Em Outside Mini-Grants proposals are due January 15, 2018.  Grant recipients will be notified by February 28, 2018 as to whether their project has received funding.  Mini-grant programs must be implemented and funds must be spent by December 31, 2018, at which time final reports will be due. Recipients of the 2018 Get ‘Em Outside Mini-Grants will be asked to present their programs at the 2019 MEEA Annual Conference.

Who is eligible for the grants?

Montana schools, homeschools, nonprofit organizations and tax-exempt government agencies are eligible to apply.  Educators are encouraged to apply, either individually or with a team.  MEEA membership is not required to apply, but we request that those selected for a grant become members.
